The Journey


If you were wondering how I got from a college student with the dream of becoming a teacher to serving as a missionary in Honduras, here is a basic outline of my discernment process…

January 2013: First mission trip ever (to Nicaragua) – began to feel a pull toward mission work

March 2014: Second mission trip to Nicaragua – God has changed my dreams to His and I fully believe He is calling me to serve as a missionary

April: I begin seriously discerning mission work, specifically in Nicaragua.

November 2014: Third mission trip to Nicaragua

December 2014: God shows me that Nicaragua is not where He wants me to serve.

January 2015: I investigate other mission work opportunities – a friend mentions Farm of the Child

Mid February 2015: Meet Former Farm Missionary Allison by chance – she shares about her experiences at the Farm

Late February 2015: I begin discerning mission work in Honduras

Mid March 2015: I submit the application to Farm of the Child

Early May 2015: Farm of the Child offers me an interview

Mid May 2015: Farm of the Child interview with Allison

Late May 2015: Security Incident takes place near the Farm

Mid June 2015: Phone call with Executive Director Tricia re changes to the missionary program; I am offered a position

July-October 2015:  Preparations for departure and fundraising

October 13, 2015: I depart for Guatemala for two months of language school

January 5, 2016: Arrive at the Farm of the Child

Early January 2017: My term of service at the Farm is up
